On

Upon awaking he was confronted
by friendly smile and a cup of coffee, which startled him. As a precaution
he went pale and looked as though he really needed heart medicine. But
since the currently sentence was "coffee or tee, Kaffee oder Tee, coffee
or tee" and so on he just went for the coffee, which he preferred strong
and black. This turned out to be quite a wise decision, as suddenly all
around him multinational swearwords were broadcast by an even more mixed
first class passenger group. Some people, he thought and especially the
young ones just don't know how to behave. Just because they had switched

what it meant not to have seen sugar for months. In those days they had
learned to be thankful for every little bit. He tried to say as much to
the person sitting closest, but, after trying to speak slowly and deliberately
in English and then in German with no response, he lost interest [link
