Brussels Airport - Flight to Dublin
Gerlinde Kühn

"See you later in the plane" - with these words Georg said good-bye to his co-travellers at the station in Brussels Airport.

Georg could see his grandchild Barbara already from far. She studies European law and Economy in Brussels. He gave her a warm welcome: "Nice to see you - you're looking great. Taste the Kassel onion pie or Speckkuchen, originally made in Kassel." Barbara was glad and said:" Not even Belgian confiserie could be better than this pie!"

Then, Grandpa Georg said again:"You are looking great. What about your boyfriend?" Barbara blushed and answered:"He is fine. But I had trouble with him because we had different opinions on a political topic." Georg said:"I like him but you should find a way to solve problems with him. We're in a hurry, sorry." "O.K., Grandfather Georg, stay well and return healthy from your trip," Barbara told him. Georg went away and didn't turn his head for this would be a bad sign. He was a bit diverted because his mobile telephone [Handy is cellular phone in other countries], He looked for the ticket office at the airport and met the co-fellows from Kassel and Gerda, who wanted to sit behind him in the plane. They chose the non-smoker benches and talked a little and entered the plane, were welcomed by the Stewardess and were shown their seats. Georg chose an Irish newspaper for reading and a [Senior Lady from Cologne] wanted the same newspaper. They found a way: One took the Irish newspaper and the other the [Hessisch Niedersächsische Allgemeine Zeitung]. Georg was very much surprised to find this Kassel-newspaper in the plane to Dublin!

Meanwhile Gerda took her seat and put her luggage into the board above. Georg did the same but this was not easy, because the other passengers wanted to take their seats as well. When every passenger had taken his seat, they were told to fasten their seatbelts. A Stewardess checked if this was done, helped the passengers and distributed pillows.

The flight began, the Captain said "Hallo" and informed about the way and the weather. The Stewardess informed the passengers on the security measures in case of an accident. Then the sound of the motors did not allow any conversation and the passengers expected the flight to begin. Slowly the plane moved to the starting position. It was dark and wet outside. The Stewardesses fasten the seatbelts as well and started to talk to each other. The plane hat its take off and Georg had his eyes closed and sent a prayer to heaven:"Let's have a good flight!" He looked to Gerda, tried to calm her down and said:"You look as if you did not have a lot of experience in flying." Gerda replied:"I hope, this is not too obvious!"

When the plane reached the normal flight position the passenger could take off their seatbelts. Gerda felt released. Georg offered a few drinks even before eating and Gerda was astonished for her offered beer. She asked whether alcohol would do harm to him. After having enjoyed his beer the menu was served and drinks were offered as well. The sounds of the plane could hardly be heard. The passenger started to relax and to enjoy their flight. Flying above the clouds was marvellous. Some started to dream when the Stewardess began to offer Duty Free-products. Gerda Huebsch was interested in buying something and Georg drank his beer. Suddenly they could read:"Please fasten your seatbelts!" The selling of Duty Free-products was stopped. The Stewardesses fasten their seatbelts as well and the plane trembled while falling into clouds. The Pilot spoke to the passenger:"Stay calm, because of weather problems we have to lower our height. Gerda nearly fainted and even Georg anxious looked for a sanitary bag in case he should vomit. He offered Gerda the bag but she was not in the mood for talking. Many passengers were excited. Georg even wanted to go to the toilet, but it was not allowed. After a while the weather calmed down. Georg could visit the toilet and when the front man left the toilet Georg noticed that he knew the person. He could not make out the name.

When he took his seat again, he found Gerda having closed eyes nearly crying and he gave her a tissue and tried to console her with the words:"We'll soon reach our destination." Gerda begun slowly to relax but regretted that she did not feel well. The flight was over and the landing began and he had no chance to read or to change the Newspapers.

Again the passenger had to fasten their seatbelts and to stop smoking. Georg felt enthusiastically. In front of his eyes he could see Dublin appearing in the sunlight. The plane landed smoothly. Gerda shouted:"Thank Good, it's over now!" And then she applauded the Captain for a successful flight.

The passengers started to look for their luggage. Georg felt that he had arrived: "Dublin, - hups - here I am!" he said with a smile on his face. Gerda thought by herself: "How many cans of Ale Georg had drunk?" They both smiled to each other and slowly they left the plane saying good bye to the Captain and the Stewardesses.
